What, a white-out in July?

This was the sight that greeted rush-hour commuters across southern England on Tuesday evening.
The white stuff piled up on roads and pavements as violent thunderstorms swept across the South.
But it wasn't snow that fell - it was giant hailstones.
And when it wasn't hailing it was raining.
But it's july..... supposed to be summer!!!!!

Flying - The Safest way of Transport.

In August 24, 2001, an Air Transat Airbus A330, heading from Toronto, Canada to Lisbon, Portugal, experienced problems with the left engine's fuel supply. Hours later, the plane runs out of fuel over the Atlantic and the 230,000Kg A330 with 304 people on-board, without engine power, glided for almost 20 minutes, descending from for more than 30,000 ft. before landing safely at Lajes Airport.

How safe can an airplane be?

These machines can fly without power. Yes, no engine running and still the heavy machines can fly and land safely with somany passenger on-board. These are not miracles. They are made to do so. They can land on sea, on grass fields and so on... Most of the systems in an airplane have redundant backups, or fail-safe techonology involved with them... so that you can fly safely...

But accidents do happen!!!

Someone once said that behind every great man is a great woman and as a morale booster for RAF fighter pilots (assuming they are men) these women come painted on the noses of warplanes wearing killer heels and, increasingly, not much else.

FOD

F.O.D. stands for Foreign Object Debris or Foreign Object Damage. FOD is an aviation term used to describe debris on or around an aircraft or damage done to an aircraft. Bird strike is an example of FOD- when a plane flies into a bird, the impact can cause severe damage to the fuselage or engine, or even directly injure those aboard the aircraft if the bird strikes the aircraft in such a way as to enter the cockpit and/or cabin.

"Biting off more than one can chew", a clear example of FOD.

Fly-by-Light

As we move on with the advanced technology, everything around us become more user friendly, good looking and so on....

Fly-by-Light could be the future of flight control instead of fly-by-wire ( http://unwarz.blogspot.com/2006/12/fly-by-wire.html )because it can transfer data at higher speeds, and it is immune to electromagnetic interference. In most cases, the cables are just changed from electrical to fiber optic cables. The data generated by the software and interpreted by the controller remain the same.

This is a forwarded e-mail i got from a friend which shows just how far India’s airlines are willing to go in the battle for passengers.

The email includes a photo of a Jet Airways advertising hoarding bearing the tagline “We’ve changed” in a bid to woo travelers aboard.

In an apparent game of one-upmanship, rivals Kingfisher erected a similar hoarding above the Jet Airways advert claiming “We made them change”.

Not to be outdone, both adverts are trumped with an announcement by carrier Go Air which claims: “We’ve not changed – we’re still the smartest way to fly.”
